Halloween Party Decorating Ideas

Halloween decorations can vary depending on the type of party you intend on throwing. When in doubt about which particular decorations you would like for your party, you can always refer back to the major Halloween theme colors- black and orange. Before searching for or purchasing any decorations, be sure to ask yourself who you?ve invited to the event. For adult guests, decorations for a Halloween party can be pretty intense, involving some amazingly realistic blood and gore!

On the other hand, if your guest lists includes a younger crowd- family and friends with kids- then be sure to decorate accordingly. For a more family oriented party that is fun and still a little bit spooky, buy spider webs and black plastic spiders to suspend from the corners of the walls or outside from the bushes or trees.

For decorations to create together, kids and adults alike can work together to create jack-o-lanterns. Have the kids decide the faces they would like to have carved and draw them onto the surfaces of the pumpkins with a permanent marker. These designs can be simple or very intricate, goofy or very scary, so allow everyone to have a share in planning for the jack-o-lanterns. At night, candles can be placed inside the lanterns, and when placed outside, they are a great way to show holiday spirit or to invite trick-or-treaters to your home.

Another great way to decorate your home for a Halloween party is to have you and your guests become the decorations. Make sure you have each part of the craft and enough supplies for everyone. Guest will want to bring home their creations which can also double as their party favor. Invite your company to wear costumes, and party away!

Children's Christmas Gifts

Is it already Christmas again? It seems to sneak up on me every single year. The leaves start falling and soon the Christmas aisles are full and you hear Christmas carols piped through all of the stores. Christmas time is one of my favorite holidays, simply becaue it is a time for my family to gather together. Eating all of those wonderful sweets and foods just raises my spirit. One thing that does not thrill my soul, however, is Christmas gifts shopping. What new things will my children want this year? My children are alreay checking out all of the commercials on television and making their lists.

What Christmas gifts have your children been dreaming about? Have you checked out the hottest new toys? How do you choose which gift your child will really like when they are constantly changing their minds and their lists? This is one of those difficult questions that parents face. If you can determine what your child will enjoy before the Christmas rush, however, you will find that your Christmas gifts shopping will become much less stressful. The new, hot toys are most likely going to sell out before Christmas even gets here so that is why you need to know what your child likes so that you can buy it as soon as it comes out. Children usually get their hearts set on one or two specific toys and being aware of what they want in advance will allow you to buy early. This also helps to cut down on disappoinment. October is a great time to start that shopping because most people are concerned with Halloween at this point and have not even started thinking about Christmas.

If, however, you still are unsure of what toys should should buy for your children's Christmas gifts, you can look online. Searching on Google.com for a specific toy is the simplest and easiest way to find that Christmas gift that you are looking for. Your search results will most likely include Amazon.com. They usually have anything and everything that you want and need. All you do is click and pay. How easy is that? Christmas gifts without the stress of the mall! Merry Christmas!

Baby Room Decorating V Nurturing Head to Head

When decorating baby rooms and children spaces there are many considerations to take into account to satisfy your need to create the WOW factor. There are color choices to be made, paint techniques and finishes to be decided on, the needs of the room have to be identified, safety issues addressed, window treatments selected. Of course creating a room that your child and others love is also high on your list of priorities. All of this has to be accomplished within a set budget.

One question I hear being debated frequently is, Should I use Primary colors or Pastel colors for my baby room/child space?. Much information is available on the ability of Primary colors to stimulate cognitive processing and development. Babies can perceive bright, primary colors long before they can focus on pastel colors. That's a fact. Parents want to provide a stimulating environment for their children. That's also a fact. It's part of the 'morphing' process that takes place within you when your child is born - you change from a somewhat egotistical individual to being totally self-sacrificing for the needs of your child - it goes with the territory of being a parent.

So instead of visualizing powder blue, or misty pink, you think about Magenta, or Tangy Tangerine or Aegean Blue. You tell yourself that even though the rest of your home is finished in Barely Beige, it's not as if it'll be the first room you see when you enter the house, and you can always paint it over if you really don't like it. If it's best for your baby or child you'll talk yourself into anything!

Then you talk to other Moms, read some parenting magazines and chat to your friend who works in Childcare. You hear about fussy babies, who have trouble settling to sleep, who seem to cry all the time and grow into toddlers who need to be constantly entertained. You hear the words over-stimulated and you gasp! Once again you're visualizing Powder Blue and Misty Pink as your preferred color choice for your baby room or child space.

You've experienced your first taste of conflicting advice on parenting outcomes and providing the best environment for your child. It's seems whichever way you choose - Primary color or Pastel color - it appears your child may be disadvantaged.

Don't despair, there's a simple decorating technique used by professionals that offers a solution to your dilemma. Your baby room should contain 3 distinct spaces or areas:- a sleep area; a work area; and a play area. In the initial planning stages of your decorating project for your baby/childs room, draw the room layout on some grid paper, marking in windows, doors and closets. Next, mark in the proposed sleep area, work area and play area.

A sleep area will contain a crib or bed, a bedside table, perhaps a lamp. It is an area designed for sleep, relaxation, dreams and rejuvinating the body and mind. It should inspire a feeling of comfort and security for your child. Sleep areas are well-suited to the soothing effect of Pastel colors.

A work area will initially contain a diaper change space, diaper bucket, drawers or cupboards for clothing, storage for infant-care products, and a feeding chair which will evolve with your baby's growth into a toddler to becoming an area where your child can develop their fine-motor skills e.g. by drawing, painting, manipulating playdoh or construction. Your feeding chair becomes a story sharing place for you and your child, a place to build magic and imagination. Work areas need to be fully washable and easy to maintain - this is the area of the room that will suffer the most accidents; from baby vomit, to spilled paint, to playdoh squished into the floor. Using Neutral colors in your work area, highlighted with accessories using 2 or 3 colors from the rest of the room allows you to easily identify and attend to any spillage accidents that may occur here.

A play area for an infant may simply be an area where you keep cuddle toys, hang mobiles and shelve books. As your baby grows into a toddler this area of their room can become the most- used high-traffic area in your home. Your child will be playing with blocks, a dollhouse, making cubby spaces, playing pirates or cowboys or schools in this area. Your toddler will use their hands on the walls to aid their physical stability as they play, and toys will be constantly bumped into walls as their gross motor skills develop fine tuning, so keep durability in mind when choosing a finish for the walls here. The best Play areas are inviting and stimulating, and provoke excitement and imagination. Play areas are well-suited to the invigorating effects of Primary colors.

By identifying the 3 distinct needs of your child's room - sleep, work, play - and decorating appropriately, you'll be giving your child the best of both worlds without having to choose.

Decorating and best-practice parenting choices just became a whole lot easier!

8 Simple Home Decorating Tips and Ideas

Here are some practical and simple tips and ideas on how to decorate and significantly improve the home set up.

1. Clean the house. Get rid of all the items and equipment that are already not used for quite some time. Forget about sentimental values. There is a stock room for this non-useful objects. Say good bye to all of them. Remember, it pays to make your home more wide-spaced and practically cozier and more beautiful.

2. Consider a repaint. Soft and bright colors are a welcome note. Stay away from hot colors that may prevent your eyes from relaxing after a long and hard day from work.

3. Flowers used to be the refreshing d?cor at homes, but those days are over, Usually, flower bases also become the habitat for insects and gross organisms so put them away. Gardens are for flowers. Do not turn your home into a mini garden.

4. Sort the things according to their uses, functions and classifications. For example, kitchenware are to be placed exclusively at the kitchen. Bookcases are to be filled with books and magazines, not the quick stock room for miniscule dress pieces like underwear and stuff.

5. Create a mini office out of a room that is not of use. That would prevent you from turning your bedroom into the extension of your office table. The bedroom is for relaxation and sleeping, not for work.

6. Put carpets on the floor. They make up for a homier and more comfortable feel for the home.

7. Clean the bathroom. Make sure the tiles are suited to your taste. If you feel uncomfortable with the design and color of your bathroom tiles, then consider a change or a bathroom makeover.

8. Make sure the lights are properly installed. Hire an electrical engineer to make sure all electric connections in the house are still safe and are properly and functionally installed.

Overall makeover or redecorating of your home is needed if you are not comfortable with your house anymore. Seek advice and opinion from friends and family about how they think the house could be made even better.

The house is your sanctuary. Make it more comfortable.

Baby Shower Games

Baby showers are a fun way to welcome a baby into the world and are great occasions for the parents-to-be to receive the wishes of all their friends. Generally given by friends and co-workers, baby showers are much more than just a party. They provide a chance for the guests to have a get together and maybe even meet the new baby.

Baby shower parties usually last for 2-3 hours depending on the number of guests and the kind of party. They can have any number of guests from five to more than a hundred. It is a good idea to have a few games in the party, as they are a lot of fun and also act as ice-breakers. They are a good way to interact wherein experienced parents can throw in advice for the parents-to-be. There can be two to four games planned in a baby shower and some small prizes to give the winners. However, the main idea is not to win or lose but to be as creative as possible and to make the party as much fun as possible.

A few common baby shower games are the Name Game (forming words with letters in baby names), Feeding Time! (while blindfolded try to scoop cotton balls), Rice Bowl (try to find safety pins in rice while blindfolded), Baby Guests (match each guest to their baby photo), Baby Bingo (bingo with baby words instead of numbers), Shower Gift Bingo (bingo played during gift opening), Round the Tummy (guests estimate size of mommy's tummy), It's in the Bag (guess what items are only by touch), Off Limits! (certain action or word off limits during shower), Baby Food Game (identifying baby foods based on their appearance), Scrambled (unscrambling baby-related words), Poopy Diaper (guess which candy bars are melted in a diaper) etc.

Before planning the games, it is wise to have all information about the number of guests who are expected to attend the party. All the supplies required for the games such as pens, paper, and other items have to the ready before the guests arrive. Keep a few spare supplies in case more guests turn up than expected. Small prizes can be awarded to the guests, including candles, potpourri, picture frames, food goodies like candy, bath soaps, and decorative flowers.

Contemporary Bedding Ensembles

When shopping for new bedding ensembles for your home many retailers will refer to their product lines as Contemporary. Contemporary bedding itself doesn?t really have a concrete definition. Often the definition will vary depending on who you ask, and even when you ask them. Like the clothing industry, bedding fashions change over time and a pattern or style which today falls under ?contemporary? or ?modern? may very well be considered under a different heading in the future. In this article we will discuss three of the major bedding manufacturers and what styles in their lines are currently considered contemporary.

Contemporary bedding offered by Dakotah represents Dakotah?s usual fine fabrics and clean linear designs. Using simple color palettes and sleek minimalist design features make Dakotah bedding a very elegant choice. Some of their current contemporary designs include:

Aurora - Features an abstract wave pattern in the season?s hottest color combination, mocha and sky blue.
Metrotech - Combines a clean stripe pattern with warm honey tones for a look that is simple and chic.
Odyssey - Combines classic black silk shantung with stylish metallic shades of gold and copper.

Thomasville Contemporary Ensembles follow Thomasville?s usual approach to creating fine bedding that is versatile and diverse. Thomasville offers their bedding a la carte so creating an ensemble which fits your lifestyle, price range and personal preference is easy. Thomasville designs are described as artistically abstract, using bright color palettes and detailed accessories. Their current contemporary line includes these designs:
Altessa - A beautiful abstract swirl pattern using rich earth tones with gold shantung accents.
Coronado - A modern take on art deco, using bold patterns with accessories that add a bright pop of color.
Pavilion - takes its cue from the bohemian trend, using patchwork patterns in soothing shades of sky and parchment.

Veratex, yet another fine bedding manufacturer, is well known for their modern sense of style. Veratex contemporary ensembles are inspired by rich designs found in cultures throughout the world. Three of their ensembles which stand out as contemporary design are:
Waterlily and Dynasties - both inspired by Asian design, using clean lines, solid colors, and simple blocked patterns.
Serrano - inspired by designs of the Southwest. This classic stripe pattern combines earth tones with a bold shade of orange spice.

These are some of the key styles that current manufacturers are offering as contemporary. What ties all of these designs together are sleek lines, natural color palettes and either abstract or geometric patterns. Usually a modern look will include a clean lined, tailored bed skirt as opposed to the classic ruffled bed skirt.

Decorating for the Artist Within

There is an artist lurking within all of us. The creative fire burns in every human, propelling us to create, to express, to shape the world around us. Even though we may be unlearned, or perhaps even unskilled, still the urge to impact our environment is so inherent that we do it without even thinking about it. Every twist of the magazines on the coffee table, every centering of a portrait, every adjustment we make is our inner self yearning to impact the world around. By making a conscious effort we can guide these impulses into a form of art that will both beautify our surroundings and strengthen our inner self.

When you decorate, the artist does not have to be buried in the dark. You can be brave; taking strength from the fact that the person you are is good and right and what you want is good and right for you. If something sings to your insides then that is the right decision.

This does not, however, mean that you are always right. An artist?s concept on the inside is perfect, it is only once it has been expressed that it becomes open to fallibility. This is fine. The only way to teach yourself what it is that you want is to experiment with what you think.

Utilize the full creativity of your mind when planning a room. Close your eyes and imagine colors. Walk along the walls of the room, touch them, feel the shape of the space within. Understand the sense of the room. Then close your eyes again and find what you want from the room. What does that look like? What would be the feel in the perfect room? Sketch out ideas and keep notes.

When you are ready get as many samples as you can. Match color swatches to fabric, hold pictures of different furnishings up against different colors, try out carpets and be sure that you feel comfortable with everything.

Don?t agonize; the important thing is to have fun. When you have fun your mind relaxes and works better, it pulls information from different places and creates impressions that make up your artistic insides. Listen to your instincts, and test everything.

When it is time to actually decorate, use the room as a canvas. Place items and hues into the room carefully, judging their effect on the rest of the space. If you have to, throw some things out. You can even start over. The important thing is the satisfaction you get as you apply your d?cor.

When you are done you may feel unsatisfied. Finish the project, and then walk away. Try not to dwell on it for a week at least. When you return you will see more clearly. Then you will be able to judge your work. Be gentle, this is not a contest. This is about you being comfortable and happy. If you aren?t, change things. Even if you are, it is good to think of decorating as a constant work in progress. One day something belongs here, another it belongs somewhere else. Only you can tell where it needs to be. Experiment and have fun, and things will turn out beautiful.

Bathroom Mirrors

A room designed for flushing crap and washing away city?s grime must have a mirror to convince you that the person you look at after the scrubbing and brushing is all set for the slog and toil again. From using the dental floss and brushing the teeth to scrubbing, shaving and eyebrow pricking bathroom mirrors are a must have. Ranging from simple shower glass mirror to the clear fogless mirrors they are used for both vanity and decorative purpose in the private and emotional space such as bathroom. With variety of shapes, size, designs and frames they are a basic utility element of custom bathroom accessories for both residential and commercial use.

The mirrors come with special attachments for holding mugs, brushes soap-case etc. framed or unframed to suit your needs. The place where best of ideas take hold and the mime artist in you takes over the utilitarian space as the stage needs to be embellished with a mirror. The mirror certainly has given bathrooms a new visual status.

We go into the bathroom for specific reasons, usually to leave something behind. But we often leave with something unexpected. Bathroom mirror is an extra ordinary reflector for even a forgotten underdog who can treat himself like a king as there is nobody?s except him to judge and critically analyze. An antique mirror, iron framed, standalone or hung on a wall, bathroom mirrors have come a long distance from the Greeks and Romans who used a disk of metal with a highly polished face to admire themselves. Aluminum being resistant to oxidation and offering easy maintenance has become the only name in the industry. Checking your physical appearance and the dark circles to the blemishes and lines on the face, bathroom mirrors are indisputably the best to bring you face to face with yourself.

Halloween Decorations: Boo To You And Pumpkins Too!

It seems as if everyone is getting more and more interested in decorating for every holiday, and Halloween is one of my favorites! Whether you choose to go the spooky route, or the friendly route, Halloween decorating is fun for everyone. Most Halloween decorations are made the day before Halloween, and put out for just one night, so you probably want to decorate in a manner to pack the biggest boo for the buck.

Buy inexpensive styrofoam, gray paint (or granite paint, if you don?t mind the extra cost) and black markers. Cut various sizes and types of tomb stones, pile up hay to resemble grave mounds, for especially spooky Halloween decorations, fill a surgical glove with gelatin (mixed in the jigglers recipe on the back of the gelatin box) tie it off securely, and put it a shirt sleeve filled with hay around a stick that can be stuck into one of the grave mounds, as if someone is trying to escape the grave. The gelatin will wiggle at the slightest movement. For added fright factors, splash a little fake blood around. String a fake spider web, sprinkled with spiders, buy dry ice for an ultra spooky fog, play ghostly tunes, and serve candy hands from a witch?s pot.

Recipe for Candy Hands:

Surgical gloves
Small bags of candy corn
Popcorn

Stuff the fingers with popcorn, then fill the hand with small packages of candy corn. Tie off at the ends, and ?hand? them out to the trick or treaters in your neighborhood.

If you prefer friendly Halloween decorations instead of ghoulish ones, play Casper the friendly ghost, instead of fiendishly frightening howls, and decorate with smiling ghosts made by covering helium filled, white balloons, tied off with a long piece of clear fishing line, and covered with white garbage bags. Paint on happy faces, and tying the ghosts with the other end of the fishing line, so they appear to fly with even the slightest breeze. Halloween ?totem pole? decorations can be made by pushing pumpkins onto a length of one inch pipe, and drawing on happy faces, then pushing the pipe into the ground.

Decorating your Christmas Tree with Meaning

Do you remember the fun and excitement every year when decorating the Christmas tree? All the tinsel and silver baubles. What did they mean? Were they just pretty decorations? This year put meaning into your tree decorations. At the same time, teach your children the true meaning of Christmas.

First of all the tree. Normally an evergreen pine tree. The evergreen symbolizing the everlasting life we have in Christ. The green color is a symbol of new life and a fresh start.

Start with a string of white lights. These symbolize how Jesus came into the world to be a light to everyone.

Add a string of colored lights. These symbolize the different people and nations of the world. Also that Christ told us to be a light for the rest of the world.

Gold tinsel indicates that we are royalty. Children of the King of Kings.

Now add candy canes. There is a lot of symbolism hidden in a simple candy cane. The cane is like the Shepard's crooks. Christ came as the Shepard for his flock. He was also the lamb led to the cross for us. Then the colors red and white. Christ shed his blood (red) to wash us as white as snow (white). If there are green stripes in the cane this symbolizes the everlasting life we have in Jesus.

Get small sheep and tie fishing gut on them to hang them in the tree. We are all Christ's sheep whom he came to save. Also he was the lamb led to the cross for us. Jesus shared his first home with cattle and possibly goats. Why not hang a few of these too?

Angels were the messengers to Mary, Joseph and the Shepard's. Get your children to make their own angels to hang in the tree?

The star of Bethlehem lead the wise men to baby Jesus. Hang several stars - both big and small - in the tree.

Gifts were brought to the baby. Wrap small boxes in gay wrapping paper to add color and variety to your tree.

Christ came to earth to die for us so we could have eternal life. Make a few crosses from twigs of wood and add them to your tree.

To top it all - place a star, angel or gold crown at the top of your tree.

Still have space? Then think of other items like a small bible, manger, camels, donkey, purple streamers indicating royalty, etc. Ask your children for their ideas too. They may just surprise you with their insight.

Light Up Your Kitchen with the Right Lighting!

The proper lighting in a room can make or break it. With lighting, you can create a soft, cozy room for reading and relaxing. With bright, brilliant light you create a sense of excitement and energy. When looking for the right lighting for a room consider what you will do in that space and what you want the lighting to do. If you plan to install lighting fixtures in your kitchen, you will want to use kitchen lighting that is bright and clean. You need to see what you are doing without shadows and haziness.

A popular choice of lighting is track lighting. With a long strip of lights that point in whatever direction you decide, it is a great option for areas with a lot of lighting needs. You can direct the light at pictures, doorways, over a table or near a chair. Track lighting is also used for hallways where long spaces need constant light. The designs and colors of the track lighting fixtures are really anything. You will find many options in any store.

A common area that people seem to have trouble with is outdoor lighting. Again, there are many options available to choose from. Strings of lighting fixtures that push into the ground are common. Usually, these, get bumped or run over with the lawnmower if placed near high traffic areas. And, keeping the lights on all evening can become costly. Another alternative is solar lighting. These look similar to the last but are powered by the sun. During the day they charge up from the solar rays even in cloudy weather. Then, at evening, when the sun is down, they are glowing. Landscape lighting is a great way to line your driveway or sidewalks. You can also use brighter fixtures to light up your flag or just a flower bed. It makes for a great look to those approaching the house in the evening hours.

Lighting, in whatever form, can be expensive. But, purchasing the proper lights can add quality and life to a room. So, what do you do? There are several options. For one, there are stores that offer discount lighting. Many of your larger home stores and even some department stores carry lighting fixtures that are very nice and affordable. Of course, the selection and styles may be limited, but you may find what you want anyway. There are stores that specialize in lighting and they often can order something you want if they do not carry the items. So, there are choices.

For all types of spaces, indoor and outdoor, there are lighting options. Consider all aspects of what you are installing though. The cost of the fixtures, the wattage they will put out and even the quality of light you will gain. Lighting fixtures can add and enhance the mood of any room. Take your time and consider all these options before choosing the lighting you want.

Tips on Choosing the Best Christmas Lights for the Holiday Season

The smell of Christmas cookies, garland, sight of the great Christmas tree and the sound of Christmas carols serenading us are signs that Christmas season is coming near. Households are getting busy with all the preparation for this special time of the year.

Decorating the house is one of the hardest things to do and being creative is the key for a successful Christmas decoration. Using Christmas lights can brighten your home and make your Christmas decoration more lively which is the true meaning of the season. This holiday season should be a joyous time to share with your loved ones.

In this season you can find many types of decorative Christmas lights in many home improvement centers. You can find icicle lights, the conventional mini lights and mesh style lights that are used to wrap around a tree trunk.

There are also many colors available that will suite your taste from clear white to colored bulbs and those that blink, chase and stay lit. The right decoration and style of home will depend on your taste and what look you want. It also depends on how much you want to spend on your Christmas lights and other decorations.

Nowadays mini lights are more popular because of their power, inexpensive cost and also because of their tiny lights unlike a C-9? and C-7? that have 5 to 10 watts similar to the bulbs of those conventional ones. They also consume a lot of energy because their bulbs turn very hot when used for a long time unlike the mini light?s 1.5 or 2.5 volt bulbs. In other aspects C-9? and C-7? are more reliable when it comes to durability and reliability. When a bulb is missing, broken or twisted, all bulbs on the string will not work. A C-9? and C-7? will continue to operate when a bulb is broken.

It is most convenient to look for light strings that have male and female receptacles in both ends. In this way it is easier to route because you can plug two strings from end to end.

In the case of a mini light, it is better to choose strings that have 50 bulbs than those with 100 to 200 bulbs because you can replace a string when defective or not working well. Regardless of what kind of Christmas lights you?ll choose, remember to go for those that are UL-approved and take extra care on manufacturer?s directions on the package.

Here are some creative tips on how you can hang Christmas lights:

1.Find a suitable electrical receptacle for the lights and use a heavy duty extension cords that are 120-volt electrical outlet and protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter. Use a controlled switch outlet with an automatic timer that turns on at dusk and turns off late night.

2.Use a long measuring tape, measure the length of the house from the ground and its height or trees and bushes you intend to put your lights on. Measure the needed length of strings that you need to use.

3.Before plugging your Christmas lights visually observe and inspect them for broken bulbs and defective wires. If there are broken bulbs, replace them with new ones. Remember to use safety gloves and long-nose pliers when pulling out a bulb. After replacing the bulbs you can now plug them and test the string again. If the string didn?t work, check if the fuse had blown.

4.Use a step ladder if your home?s eaves are low or you may also use an extension ladder. Remember to place it firmly on the ground and against the eaves so that it will be sturdy and can support your weight.

5.Hang the lights along the eaves and use plastic clips, these clips grip gutters and have a hook that holds a light string or a wire.

6.When attaching light strings to a window trim or any other vertical places, remember to use plastic clips that have screws and put them 12 inches apart. Do not use nails and staples because it can harm the wires which might cause electrical hazards.

Christmas is a time to shine. Make sure to be creative when choosing and decorating your Christmas lights. Make sure to fill your home with Christmas lights and make it the shiniest home around your community.

Using Outside Christmas Decorations For a Festive Welcome

If you live in a country that celebrates Christmas, then there is a very good chance that some people in your village, town or city use outside Christmas decorations of one type or another. In some neighbourhoods, though, there may be a proliferation of Christmas decor and lighting, as neighbours compete with each other, or just get together with the desire to make their home the centre of attraction in their region for Christmas displays.

The small concentrations of extreme outside decorating for the festive season certainly happens in some neighbourhoods in England, my country of origin. It also happens here in the Philippines, where I now live; for example, Danao City in Cebu province made national news with the way the local people had proudly set out their elaborate decorations a few Christmases ago. Unfortunately, I moved from Danao the year before that started to occur.

In some examples, houses and gardens will be totally festooned with outside Christmas ornaments and other Christmas decorations. However, not all of us want, or need, to get too carried away with the outside Christmas decorations, and just want to do something quite restrained and tasteful, just to let everyone know that ours is a house with a warm festive welcome in store.

What to Use For Outside Christmas Decorations

Many of the ideas you can use for outdoor Christmas decorations are based on those decorations and ornaments you would use inside. However, decorating the outside of the house and garden does bring with it a few different options, as well as presenting some concerns that you should bear in mind with certain types of decor. Here are just a few ideas for your outside Christmas decor:

Christmas Lights

Here in the Philippines, many homes have outside Christmas lights, and this is reflected in my Christmas story, set in Palawan. Those Christmas lights are often draped around windows and porches, but also sometimes on grottos, trees and bushes. An important consideration with outdoor lights is the electrical safety, as not all sets of lights are suitable for outdoor use. However, lights on the outside of a house are an effective way of displaying your festive intent. You can also have an outside display by having the lights around the inside of the window, but visible from the outside.

Christmas Trees

As great as it is to have a Christmas tree in the home, it can also look good outside, or at least in the porch. If you have a suitable tree growing in the garden, then it is just a matter of arranging your lights and ornaments; or, you can buy a real or artificial Christmas tree just for the outside. That does not stop you having a tree inside as well, of course!

One idea I particularly like for outside is perfect if you have a drive or pathway in your front garden. By placing small Christmas trees either side of the driveway, from the entrance gate to the front door or porch, you can create a lighted avenue which passers-by will enjoy a much as you. This special Christmas tree display can easily be achieved by artificial prelit trees made for that purpose.

Other Ideas For Outside Christmas Decorations

There are lots of other Christmas decorations and ornaments that can be used outside, or at least be seen from the outside. Wreaths and garlands are a traditional welcome at the front door or porchway, and with such a good choice of artificial wreaths and garlands available today, some prelit, it is relatively easy to find something attractive to add to your outside decor, even if it does need the cover of the porch.

Another idea for the garden itself is plant stakes with a Christmas design, which can be made from metal and able to withstand winter weather outside. If you search hard enough, you may also find some special Christmas statues and ornaments made from concrete or fiberstone.

There is much scope for having outside Christmas decorations, but it can also be easy to get carried away once you start. So it may not be a bad idea to set a budget before even starting your outside decorations for the holiday season.

Wrought Iron the Newest House Guest

The days of wrought iron being found only on porches and patios are long gone: There is no doubt that wrought iron is making its way into indoor living space.

If you?re looking to bring new life into rooms in your home, look no further than creative wrought iron d?cor that is appropriate for any room of your house. You?ll enjoy endless decorating possibilities that offer a long-lasting and sturdy solution to spice up a room?s feel. Depending on the decorations you choose, you can create the feel of a Paris apartment, a woodsy cabin, a country kitchen or a modern city apartment ? all with a few simple decorating touches.

Just a few possibilities include:

Wrought wine rack
A wine rack adds a sophisticated look to any room: And a wrought iron wine rack is ideal for its versatility. Wrought wine racks may hold just one bottle ? or hundreds. They may mount to a wall, hang from the ceiling, function as a wine table or hold bottles in a wide range of sizes or unconventional shapes. Plus, you may select wrought iron wine servers or holders to enhance the elegance of a romantic dinner for two ? or to create a conversation piece at a large, boisterous dinner party. The possibilities are endless.

Wrought iron candle holder
If you?re looking for a creative way to display your candles ? whether you burn them frequently or use them as a decorative touch in your rooms ? wrought iron candle holders should not be overlooked. From a wall-mounted candle sconce to a small votive holder to a candle plate, there is a wrought iron candle holder to suit any need (and candle). Or, replace that unsightly jar topper with a decorative wrought iron jar topper that matches the other wrought iron d?cor in your home. Meanwhile, wrought candle dishes are so subtle that they suit any d?cor ? and are easy to clean cooled wax from. Since they often feature a wide base, these candle dishes are ideal for large pillar candles, or cake candles.

Wrought iron wall decor
The most common wrought iron wall art may be found outside of a home, or in a hallway: Signs welcoming visitors to ones home, often featuring a variety of simple scenes or individual images (particularly of animals). But there are more outstanding options available: Consider employing a long-lasting wrought iron coat rack in your foyer to create just the feel you?re looking for. Or, employ wrought iron candle holders that mount to the wall to tie the aesthetics of your home together. Wrought iron key holders effectively complement both these decorative touches and further create a theme for your home.

Wrought iron curtain rods
Add a sophisticated touch to any room in your house by eliminating the standard run-of-the-mill rods you currently hang your curtains from. Replace them with wrought iron curtain rods, which enhance any room and provide a reliably strong mechanism to hang curtains from. Because of its strength and weight, these are an outstanding option if you?re looking to hang heavier canvas-type curtains. Just remember to make sure the hardware the rod is attached with is strong enough to support the extra strength.

Wrought iron plant stands
Because of its durability and strength, wrought iron makes for an ideal plant stand, either inside or outside. A variety of sizes are available to hold nearly any pot you use, at any height you desire. You may elevate and bring more attention to shorter plants with a tall wrought plant stand, or support a large, heavy plant (and keep it off your carpet or flooring) with a low-to-the-ground stand. Although plant stands are a most effective way to fill corners in a house, they look gorgeous placed throughout a backyard or patio, placed around a pool or a hot tub to create a tropical feel, or used at the front door to create a pleasing first impression of your home.

Wrought iron hardware
Any light switch or room fixture can be enhanced with a wrought iron bracket. Or, tie together the other wrought iron accessories that you?ve decorated your room with by using wrought iron shelf brackets on bookshelves or display shelves. These small touches tie together the other wrought iron decorations of your room ? without going overboard ? and create a strong, cohesive feel.

When you make the decision to decorate with wrought iron ? regardless of the extent of your d?cor ?you?ll find something you love in no time.
